The aforementioned setup wizard asks you to select the components you want to install. There’s no opting out of installing the core Plane9 files. But you can choose if you want to install the following components: visualizer plug-in for the Winamp media player; visualizer plug-in for Windows Media Player; Plane9 screensaver; set Plane9 screensaver as the default screensaver; show the Windows screensaver tab in the display properties window.
